When Bansei by Hotel J was launched in Hikkaduwa on January 30, it was with minimum fuss and frills. The well attended event on the hotel’s terrace seemed an apt expression of Bansei’s commitment to affordable comfort without unnecessary fuss.

Jetwing Chairman Hiran Cooray addressing invitees at the launch

Located on the Hikkaduwa beach on the main Galle Road, Bansei was formerly Coral Rock Hotel, now managed by Jetwing Hotels together with Japanese partners Bansei Securities. Hikkaduwa’s bustling city hub is practically at the hotel’s doorstep, so guests have easy access to anything from the roti kades, to shops selling colourful beachwear and all the other amenities that this town largely geared toward tourism offers.

Bansei offers 30 rooms; 14 standard, 14 deluxe and 2 super-deluxe. Purposefully furnished with comfortable fittings and a cheerfully bright colour scheme outside, these rooms come equipped with free wi-fi, powerful showers, snug bedding and great views of the ocean.

Speaking at the launch, Chairman of Jetwing Hiran Cooray expressed his satisfaction with Bansei’s premise, observing that it would prove to make for a wise investment for Bansei Securities. He also noted that Jetwing Hotels looked forward to more open dialogue with newly appointed Minister of Tourism Naveen Dissanayake, who also attended the event. Dissanayake himself reiterated his keenness to further cement this business relationship with Japan, noting that it was a “beneficial partnership for both countries.”
