Miss World to speak at Rotary conference
The reigning Miss World 2014 Rolene Strauss will be among the host of illustrious speakers at next week’s 24th Rotary District Conference from
February 20-22 at the BMICH in Colombo. The conference organised for the Rotary International District 3220-Sri Lanka and Maldives will see the participation of about 1000 delegates.
This year’s conference is themed ‘Light a Candle-Spark a Change’ and guest speakers will include personalities such as Celia Cruz de Giay, Luis Giay, Rob Raylman, Katie Spotz, David Lim and E.V.Girees. Luis Giay was President of Rotary International from 1996-1997, while Celia Cruz de Giay is Vice President 2014-2015. Rob
Raylman is Executive Director of Gift of Life International, and Katie Spotz set a world record for rowing solo across the Atlantic Ocean and was named Glamour Woman of the Year in 2010. David Lim is a motivational speaker and best-selling author, while E.V. Gireesh is a leading corporate trainer. South African beauty Rolene Strauss won the Miss World title in December 2014, and she will attend the conference to support the Rotary projects for the year. Miss World is incidentally, a fourth year medical student, an obvious combination of beauty and brains.
Over the course of the weekend they will discuss key Rotary projects for the year, including the first ever human heart valve bank at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital and the planting of one million trees. Panel discussions on topics such as nation branding, and sessions on the current political climate of Sri Lanka and the period post the 100-day programme will also be held.
