Galle SC crushes Police SC by ten wickets
Galle CC crushed fancied Police SC by ten wickets with more than a day to spare in the Emerging Trophy cricket encounter concluded at the Police Park yesterday.
Galle CC even though they came into the game as underdogs dominated the proceedings from day one. The opening day’s play saw Galle CC bundling out the strong Police SC batting. who made mammoth scores of over 500 runs to a low score of 106 and who ended the day on 118 for 6.
Galle CC steered by Chaminda Ishanka and Malith de Silva who cracked half tons resuming on their overnight score went on to make 190. Police SC batting the second time almost put in a repeat performance by being bowled out for 118.
This left Galle CC a simple run chase of 34 runs which they reached with the minimum of fuss in the seventh over.
A knock of 138 with 14 boundaries and four sixes by Sachin Jayasuriya and half tons by Heshan Perera and Asela Aluthge helped Lankan CC, resuming on their overnight score of 274 for 5 to make a massive 421 against Kurunegala YCC at Kurunegala.
Sachin and Heshan whose knock of 85 comprised seven boundaries and two sixes put on valuable 108 runs stand for the sixth wicket which propelled Lankan CC’s score. Kurunegala YCC in their turn ended day two on 164 for 5.
BRC thanks to half tons by Chandima Prasad and Yashan Samarasinghe who were associated in a 129 runs partnership for the sixth wicket enabled BRC, resuming on their overnight score of 172 for 5, to end their innings making 272 against Kalutara PCC at the Police Park. This was in reply to Kalutara PCC’s 130 which saw them gain a first inning lead.
