Kithruwan triple ton, Tamil Union amass 650/8
Kithruwan Vithanage slammed a career best 351 that included 37 boundaries and 14 sixes as Tamil Union resuming on their overnight score of 530 for 6 went on to amass 650 for 8 declared against Air Force SC in the morning session of play on day two in the Premier league cricket encounter played at the Air Force ground in Katunayake.
Kithruwan’s marathon knock came off just 283 balls and was also associated in three fruitful partnerships first of a massive 310 runs for the third wicket with Rumesh Buddika, the other of 143 runs for the sixth wicket with Nisala Tharaka which was followed by a 94 runs stand for the eighth wicket with Shaminda Eranga.
Air Force SC in their turn was bundled out for 167 and made to follow on with a massive deficit of 483 runs were 68 for 2 needing a further 415 runs to avoid an innings defeat.
SLPA CC made Chilaw Marians struggle for their runs in the match at the R. Premadasa Stadium. In fact Chilaw Marians resuming on their overnight score of four for no loss was well placed on 115 for 1 but lost their way as they lost wickets at regular intervals and was bowled out for 226.
The opening day’s play saw SLPA CC taking first lease of the wicket being guided by Dhananjaya de Silva who made a 156 which comprised 16 boundaries and three sixes. Dhananjaya added a 190 runs for the third wicket with Sachithra Serasinghe who chipped in with a 85 helping SLPA CC make a massive score of 356.
The match between Colts and NCC at Colts ground has reached an interesting stage with either of the side in with a chance of gaining an outright win.
NCC having dominated the proceedings till the second session of day two yesterday fell back as Colts bowlers Ishan Jayaratne and Dilruwan Perera brought the side back into contention.
NCC came out on top on day one with Sandun Weerakkody who made a 108 and supported by Angelo Perera which saw them end their innings on 308.
Then they had Colts struggling on 63 for 5 when play ended on day one and Colts resuming on their overnight score thanks to half tons by Roshen Silva and Angelo Jayasinghe, recovered to end with a respectable score of 245 before Ishan and Dilruwan brought them back into the game.
