Maroons battle Blues in Nelson Mendis final at CCC today
View(s):The curtain will come down today of the 11th International Under 14 Cricket Tournament at the Colombo Cricket Club (CCC) grounds when CCC School of Cricket ‘Maroons’ meet Mercantile Cricket Association ‘Blues’ for the Nelson Mendis Challenge Trophy.
The match will be played on the turf wicket with 45 overs per side. Former Sri Lanka cricketer Avishka Gunawardena will be the Guest-of-Honour at the opening ceremony of the finals and on the same day, a colourful awards night will take place at the Bishop’s College Auditorium commencing at 6.00 p.m. Hemaka Amarasuriya, Chairman, Singer (Sri Lanka) plc will grace the occasion as Chief Guest.
On their way to the finals CCC School of Cricket ‘Maroons’ beat Sanat Jayasuriya Cricket Academy by 81 runs while MCA Cricket Academy ‘Blues’ overcame Fingara Cricket Academy by 7 wickets in the semi-finals played at the CMS Grounds, Kotte and Ananda Sasthralaya Grounds over last week-end.
In the match for the 3rd place Fingara Cricket Academy beat Sanath Jayasuriya Cricket Academy by 26 runs.
