Sri Lanka asks public input to probes on tourism, sports irregularities

Sri Lanka Tourism and Sports Ministry has established a 3-member committee to pursue and explore irregularities that had taken place in these two sectors in the past five years, an announcement in the media stated this week.

The ministry had made a public appeal in this regard for any member of the public or official to make representations in respect of institutions within the ministry on irregularities that had occurred. The announcement was made as a public notice in the daily newspapers on Monday.The major divisions and institutions under the purview of the ministry identified for such irregularities are: Tourism and Sports Ministry; Department of Sports Development; Sports Federations and Boards registered in the Ministry; the Sugathadasa National Sports Complex Authority; Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau; Sri Lanka Convention Bureau; Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management; Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority; Department of Wildlife Conservation; Department of National Botanical Gardens; and the Department of National Zoological Gardens. There was no reference to Sri Lanka Cricket or other sports associations which are privately, elected units.(SD)
