Addressing a media conference he said the recent decision by the government to pay the increment of Rs 10,000 as an allowance was contrary to the promise made during the run-up to the elections, that the amount would be added to the basic salary.

The Union member also claimed that President Maithripala Sirisena had annulled former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s decision to increase the Rs 25,000 paid to government doctors to Rs 40,000 from January 1.

Representatives of Lab Assistants who also addressed the media questioned the discrepancy in the overtime payments between lab assistants and the rest of the health workers.
