Burooj Realization’s maiden Sri Lanka Interschool Islamic Quiz a resounding success
View(s):The Colombo branch of ‘Burooj’, an International Muslim organisation dedicated to “help spread the beautiful words of the Quran and Sunnah”, held its first interschool Islamic quiz in Sri Lanka.
Held at the Navarangahala, the quiz had over 800 participants from schools with Muslim students, such as Zahira College, Royal College, DS Senanayake College, St. Peter’s College and Muslim Ladies’ College.
Gateway College, Stafford International and Lyceum International also participated, besides a number of ‘Ahadiya’ schools from around the country.
In a closely contested competition, Ilma International Girls’ School emerged winners.
The preliminary round of the quiz consisted of a written paper answered by a team, followed by a session of onstage interaction.
At the end of the day, the Burooj team declared the event was just as educational to them as it was for the students.
Burooj Realization, as the trust is officially known, was founded in 2004 by Dawood Wahid and other Muslims who were “united by their belief and their conviction in the holy Quran and the Sunnah of our rophet Muhammad (PBUH).”
By now, spread over Asia with 95 branches, Burooj opened its first Sri Lanka branch in June 2013 in Colombo, and now have branches in Kandy, Galle, Balangoda and Matara.
“The event at the Navarangahala was inspiring,” said head of Burooj in Sri Lanka, Hajrah Asif. “It is encouraging for us teachers to know that young parents and students appreciate and look forward to our programmes. I am greatly humbled by the amazing response to this event.”
