India suffers worst flu outbreak with over 650 deaths this year
This year records India’s worst Influenza A/H1N1 outbreak and the State governments are working hard to tackle it, said Dr. Amar S. Fettle, Kerala State Nodal Officer for H1N1, Ebola and H5N1.
The outbreak has left over 650 dead from January to date in the country. Most of the victims are from Gujarat and Rajasthan, while Kerala saw four deaths.
“The most affected area in India is the north. There is a lot of activity going on in Kerala to avoid more deaths. It is absolutely necessary for people to take the necessary precautions,” Dr. Fettle said.
He said that tourists should avoid unnecessary hospital visits, crowded places and also places where people are suffering from a common cold or cough.
Dr. Fettle added that countries which have had no cases of H1N1 should toughen their airport screening processes.
