Asela, Sachin, Dhanuka and Shehan hogs limelight
View(s):Batsmen, Asela Wewelwela from AMW Group and Sachin Bulathsinghala from NDB Bank and bowlers, Dhanuka Edussuriya from NDB Bank and Shehan Wijetunga from Brumpy’s International hogged the limelight in the ongoing 12th MCA-Elephant House Lemonade Trophy, Division ‘D’ 40-over League Cricket Tournament 2015, continued last weekend.
Wewelwela became the top scorer of the tournament when he caned the Delmage Group bowlers to the tune of 154 not out in 84 balls, inclusive of 12 sixes and an equal number of fours to propel AMW Group to a 70-run win. As a result, AMW had the distinction of posting the highest team total in the tournament so far – 327 for 6 in 40 overs.
Seven-down batsman, Bulathsinghala hit a fighting century (100 not out in 81 balls, inclusive of three sixes and 11 fours) while Edussuriya snapped up 6 for 14 in five overs, to spearhead NDB Bank to a resounding 190-run win over United Tobacco Processing.
Left-arm medium pacer, Shehan Wijetunga finished with impressive figures of 5 for 13 for Brumby’s International against Expolanka Group, which ended in a rare tie.
A dogged 120-run partnership for the fifth wicket between D.U. Dantanarayana (62 not out) and P.L.S. Dinesh (61) lifted Trelleborg Lanka to a 4-wicket win over Ceylinco Insurance.
AIA Insurance opening bowler, Thishan Peiris (8-2-18-4) made early inroads to the strong Kanrich Finance ‘B’ batting line-up to hand them over a fighting 22-run win in a low scoring game; thus recording their fourth win out of five outings.
No.8 batsman, Akila Elabodage rescued David Pieris Motors from a precarious situation (132/7, chasing 185 to win) with a valiant 62 not out in 50 balls, inclusive of a six and 12 fours, to snatch a heart stopping 1-wicket win over Hemas Group. Elabodage walked in at 132 for the loss of seven wickets as David Pieris were in pursuit of 185 runs for victory.
Half centurions, Nuwan Amarasinghe (64) and Pulasthi de Silva (51) put on 95 runs for the fourth wicket to enable NTB ‘B to secure a close 14-run win over Central Finance. The tournament will continue this weekend with a match card of eight games.
