The history of food and fine dining is not complete without, at some point alluding to France. Known for gastronomic delights that have become classic dishes over time, French food is considered revolutionary in its own right. Dishes that involve skill and technique, yet simple, elegant and most importantly healthy, French cuisine is an experience unto its own.

Sweet treats from France

This March, the Goût de France/ Good France project, in cooperation with the French embassies invites the connoisseur in anyone to a traditional French dinner.

In 1912, Auguste Escoffier started Les Dîners d’Épicure (Epicurean Diners) selecting one day, where one menu would be served all over the world to as many guests as possible. More than a century later, Goût de France/ Good France hopes to recreate the concept with over 1000 chefs from all five continents paying homage to the art of French cookery. March 19 will mark the first concrete demonstration of French cuisine’s recent listing in the “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity” category by UNESCO, and its influence on the world.

Adding their own touch to contemporary cuisine, the partner restaurants vary from bistros to high-end restaurants where you can sit down and enjoy contemporary French fare at its best. Partnering with Goût de France/ Good France in Sri Lanka is Sri Lanka’s premier French restaurant Cafe Francais and Water’s Edge Ltd. While the prices are a bit steep, at Rs. 7500++ and Rs. 6500 respectively, one will be guaranteed of a typical French, six course dinner; a treat for the tongue as well as the mind.

Goût France/ Good France will be held on March 19.
