Moors SC set for an early kill over Badureliya SC
Moors SC have put themselves in for an early outright win over Badureliya SC when play ended on the third day in the Premier League Super Eight encounter at the Sooriyawewa Stadium yesterday.
They made Badureliya SC to follow with a daunting task of erasing a massive deficit of 353 runs struggling for survival with the score on 151 for 6.
The third day’s proceedings saw Badureliya SC resuming on their overnight score of 42 for 2 being able to muster a score of only 221 with three pacies Vimukthi Perera, Dilhara Lokuhettige and Kosala Kulasekera claiming eight wickets among them to do the damage.
This was in reply to Moors SC’s mammoth score of 574 which came on the backs of two solid knocks from Kaushalya Gajasinghe (150) and Irosha Samarasooriya (147).
Badureliya SC are now left with the daunting task of erasing further 202 runs with only four wickets remaining to avoid an innings defeat when play begins on the final day today.
NCC too is in line for an outright win over Army SC when play stopped on the third day at the Galle International Stadium.
In fact NCC had surrendered a first innings lead to Army SC after they made a score of 293 and bowled them out for 227. But they fought back thanks to spinner Tharindu Kaushal who was supported by Chaminda Vidanapathirana and Sohan Boralessa as the trio combined to bundle out Army SC batting the second for a score of 171.NCC, set a target of 238 runs for victory, was guided by two valuable partnerships, first of 76 runs for the second wicket between Niroshan Dickwella and Pawan Wickramasinghe and the other of 47 runs for the fourth wicket between Jehan Mubarak and Angelo Perera. This helped them end day three on 156 for 4 with 82 runs needed for victory when play resumes today.
Tamil Union and Bloomfield dominated proceedings against CCC and SLPA CC respectively in the other two matches played at R. Premadasa Stadium and Pallekel Stadium. They have gained a first innings lead when stumps were drawn on the third day.
