Gangaramaya to provide meals at affordable prices
View(s):The Gangaramaya Temple, Colombo 2, is organising a programme, with the assistance of food suppliers, to provide nutritious and wholesome meals at affordable prices to workers, a press release from the Gangaramaya Temple in Colombo said.
The programme will be inaugurated on March 25, at 11.30 a.m. at the Seemamalakaya adjoining the Gangaramaya Temple, with free lunch, as in a Dansala, while lunch and dinner would be sold at cost price from the following day onwards.
Along with this programme, it is intended to provide alms to the Maha Sangha every day at 11 a.m. at the venue.
“The objective is to educate people with regard to preparation of a wholesome meal at a lower price. We will enlist the labour of poor folk for this, so that they too will be gainfully employed,” the press release said.
“In Buddhist countries such as Thailand and Vietnam there is poverty, but meals are cheap. At the Pilgrim’s Rest run by us in Kataragama, we provide board and lodging to many, with assistance from benefactors,” the release added. It said that, during the insurgency, Gangaramaya helped people in hospitals. We are hopeful that, if our plan is successful, we will be able to provide free meals to inmates of hospitals.
