Bloomfield outclass CCC with a day to spare
Bloomfield outclassed CCC by eight wickets with more than a day to spare in the Premier League Super Eight cricket encounter at P. Sara Stadium.
Left arm spinner Chathura Randunu and the right and left arm pace combination of Nuwan Pradeep and Vishwa Fernando wrought havoc in the morning session of play on day three.
The trio laid the foundation for the early Bloomfield win as they combined with effect to bundle out CCC resuming their second innings from their overnight score of 36 for 1 for a meager 85 runs.
Chathura ended with impressive figures of 4 for 26 while Nuwan and Vishwa shared five wickets between.
The low scoring first innings saw CCC making 235 and Bloomfield 238. Bloomfield chasing a simple run chase of 83 runs though losing two early wickets with just nine runs on the board was steered by an unbroken third wicket stand of 74 runs between Kusal Mendis and Madawa Warnapura helping them to reach the target in the 19th over.
In the other matches that were played at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colts ground and NCC ground saw Moors SC, SLPA CC and Army SC gain first innings leads over NCC, Tamil Union and Badureliya SC.
Chathuranga de Silva made a 107 for Moors SC enabling them make a score of 296 while NCC in their turn was able to muster a score of only 196.
Ashan Priyanjan hit 122 for SLPA CC to guide his side make a formidable 370 in reply to Tamil Union’s 198 while Asela Gunaratne made a 122 helping Army SC post a mammoth score of 415 against Badureliya SC who was bowled out for 239.
