Mega French shipping firm CMA-CGM launches new BPO company in Sri Lanka
View(s):CMA-CGM Shared Service Centre Lanka (Pvt) Ltd recently opened its office in Colombo with an investment of US$2.5 million, six months after signing an agreement with the Board of Investment (BOI).
The main business activity of this BPO is to provide BPO/Shared Services to the CMA-CGM Group companies worldwide.
CMA – CGM is the 3rd largest shipping company in the world and the main carrier in France. CMA is present in 150 countries through its network of over 650 agencies that employ more than more than 20,000 worldwide.
According to a BOI media release, Eran Wickramaratne, Deputy Minister of Investment Promotion declared open CMA-CGM Shared Service Centre Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd in Colombo amidst a large gathering of distinguished guests.
The BOI said the CMA- CGM Shared Service Centre’s annual revenue in Sri Lanka is expected to exceed $ 4 million. It will create 700 job opportunities in Sri Lanka by the end of 2016. At the time of opening CMA-CGM Lanka has already recruited and trained more than 125 employees, mostly young graduates/CIMA/ICA SL professionals.
Christian Krarup, Vice President of CMA- CGM stressed the importance of the project and commended the support received from the BOI/Ministry of Investment Promotion and their local partner, the Hayleys Group. He said that the staff of the new centre should be proud as they are “part of a journey for Sri Lanka that is just beginning”.
Deputy Minister Wickramaratne added that the CMA/ CGM investment was most welcome in Sri Lanka and “overdue by one decade”.
CMA-CGM Shared Service Centre Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd is a joint venture with Hayleys which owns 10 per cent of the equity in CMA-CGM Shared Service Lanka.
