British School in Colombo clinches double
Golden boot winner Miharu Ramanayake struck twice, one each in either half, to lead the British School in Colombo, to edge out Lyceum International School girls 3-0 while their male counter-parts recorded a shocking 3-1 win over Lyceum International School boys to annex both girls and boys titles at the Inter-International Schools Football Championship worked off at the Torrington grounds last Friday.
Miharu gave an early lead to the winners with a powerful kick just minutes before the short whistle and struck again in the dying moments to seal a comfortable win. They also earned an own goal courtesy Lyceum girls.
In the boy’s final, Lyceum were hot favourites to win the title but the British School lads produced some impressive performances to snatch a thrilling win. Darren Hall, Ceaser Brown and Boyoung Jun Park scored a goal each for the winners. Darren Hall won the golden boot award in the boy’s category.
Besides Miharu Ramanayake, who won the Golden Boot award in the girls’ category British School skipper Anavi Singh was awarded the Best Defender trophy with Delfina Lopez and Shanya Jeewarathne winning the Best Midfielder and Best Goalkeeper awards respectively.
Darron Hall, won the Golden Boot award while his teammates Prabeanash Thirukumar and Aaron Pathinather were named the Best Defender and Best Goalkeeper respectively. Boyung Jun Park and Joshua Samaranayake shared the best Midfielder’s award. Dr. John Scarth, the Principal of The British School in Colombo graced the finals as the chief guest. – NA
