Deheragoda’s absence a blessing for others
The cool climes of Diyatalawa will be heated to the roaring of motors when the 23rd edition of Fox Hill Supercross flags off on April 18, 2015. The event is organised and conducted by the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) and the Sri Lanka Auto Sports Drivers Association (SLADA). This is a much looked forward event by motor sports enthusiasts.
Dinesh Deheragoda, the reigning champion will be a notable absentee at this year’s event as he is preparing to take part in the Asia Pacific Rally Championships.
The Fox Hill racing track is unique and holds a prominent place in Sri Lanka for its location, salubrious climes and attractive surroundings. It is greatly cherished by the racing drivers and riders for its challenging nature and loved by spectators for the entertainment and fun it offers them.
The Sri Lanka Military Academy conducts this year’s Fox Hill Supercross to raise funds to elevate the infrastructure facilities of the Academy to be in par with other Military Academies in the region.
Over 200 drivers and riders are expected to be registered for this iconic event organised by the SLMA and SLADA. Adding to the thrill, a number of competitors from overseas are also expected to show up on the race day. According to the organisers two leading racing drivers from India have been invited and top three Indian riders are among the confirmed participants.
This year’s Fox Hill Supercross comprises of 12 motor car and 12 motorcycle events approximately including the championship races which will be taken to account in awarding the Championship Trophies to the country’s top
drivers and riders at the end of the 2015 racing season.
Championship races are grouped as Group SL-GT up to 3500cc and Group SL-H up to 1600cc in the motor car category and Group MX-Racing Motocross bikes up to 125cc 2 Stroke, up to 250cc 4 Stroke and Group MX-Racing Motorcross up to 85cc (under 16 years as at 31 December 2014) in the motorcycle category.
Truck and Jeep Diesel up to 5500cc and Super Motored open including 250cc up to 1100cc (2 stroke and 4 stroke) cars up to 1500cc in the special motor car category are among the other popular races that are expected to add to the thrills and enjoyment of the competition.
According to the organising committee all arrangements are underway for a spectacular and unforgettable racing event.
