Faizal Deva heads Mercantile Basketball
View(s):Faizal Deva was elected President of the Mercantile Services Basketball Association (MSBA). The youngest ever President of the MSBA, Deva has many years of basketball in him. He captained the Commercial Credit Basketball team in 2013 which went on to become the Mercantile Services Basketball Association (MSBA) league tournament Champions.
A product of Wesley College Colombo, he played and captained the College basketball team from 1995 to 2002. He also played in the Sri Lanka Schools team in 2002/2003 and represented HSBC Sri Lanka in basketball.
“Basketball enjoys tremendous popularity among a very large number of Sri Lankans. There’s both great enthusiasm and a very high morale among those who play this sport. My aim is to further popularise the game among greater numbers of Sri Lankans, especially in the Mercantile Sector. My committee and I are also looking to new opportunities to develop the game and set in place innovative processes for the betterment of the game. At the core of all this is the vigorous promotion of basketball which I love so much”, the newly elected President affirmed.
