SriLankan Airlines B triumph over their A team
View(s):In a home and home ‘Cup’ Championship final in the 3rd Traveler Global (Pvt) Ltd., sponsored, Travel Trade Sports Club Soccer ‘Sevens’ 2015, concluded at the Shalika Grounds, Narahenpita last weekend, a snap goal in the dying minutes by R.M.L. Muthukuda of SriLankan Airlines ‘B’ gave them a thrilling 1-0 win over defending champions, SriLankan Airlines ‘A’.
Traveler Global won the ‘Plate’ and Mermaid Hotel and Club, Waskaduwa retained the ‘Bowl’.
16 teams played in four groups and at the completion of the round robin stage after 24 matches, the following eight teams, who topped their groups, advanced to the second stage of the tournament.
SriLankan Airlines ‘A’ and Jetwing Blue Negombo from Group ‘A’ New comers, Paradise Beach Hotel, Negombo and Bentota Beach Hotel from Group ‘B’ SriLankan Airlines ‘B’ and Walkers and Whittalls from Group ‘C’, Traveler Global and Mermaid Hotel and Club, Mahawaskaduwa from Group ‘D’.
Results from the Quarter-final Stage: (1) Jetwing Blue beat Bentota Beach Hotel 2/0, (2) SriLankan Airlines ‘B’ beat Mermaid Hotel and Club on penalties 3/2 (Match was tied 1-all at full time), (3) SriLankan Airlines ‘A’ beat Paradise Beach Hotel 2/0, (4) Traveler Global beat Walkers and Whittalls 3/0. (The losing quarter finalist played in the ‘Bowl’ semi-finals).
Semi-finals: (1) SriLankan Airlines ‘B’ beat Jetwing Blue 3/0, (2): SriLankan Airlines ‘A’ beat Traveler Global on penalties 3-2 (Match was tied 1-1 at full time) ( the losing semi-finalists played in the ‘Plate’ final).
‘Bowl’ Championship:
Semi-finals (1) Mermaid Hotel and Club beat Bentota Beach Hotel 3/0, (2) Paradise Beach Hotel beat Walkers and Whittalls 2/0.
Final: Mermaid Hotel and Club beat Paradise Beach Hotel 2/0.
