Darwin House champs at Inter-House Sports meet of Govt. Science College Matale
View(s):Darwin House with an aggregate of 271 points emerged overall champions at the annual inter house sports meet – 2015 of Government Science College Matale held at Science College ground on Friday March 13th.
Eeinstein House finished runners up with 237 points and Lavoisier house was placed third with 225 points.
Kavindu Sandeepa Bandara and Ravinga Heshani representing Darwin House were adjudged as the best male and female athletes respectively at the meet.
The senior boys and girls led by the College Western band gave a fine display at the march past. The drill display presented by girl athletes numbering over 500 thrilled the spectators and it was a cynosure of all eyes.
A distinguished past pupil of the College Udaya Senaviratne, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Higher Education, Investment and Irrigation graced the occasion as the Chief guest with another past pupil Rear Admiral Wasantha Tennakoon (SL Navy) as the guest of honour. The chief guest in his address highlighted the importance of engaging in Sports and the impact it has on one’s character and personality.
This year’s meet was well organised and it was well attended by a large gathering. The Organising Committee headed by the Principal Gamini Etipola also included Deputy Principal H.M.B. Herath Assistant Principal Sahampath and Anup Wickramasinghe teacher of Physical Education.
