Fighting shy

There is a special body to look after sports persons when they are sick. There is trouble brewing in this body as an entry has been made by one member against another in order to disgrace him. The Police want to inquire into this and they want to interview the person concerned. Up-to-date this official has not reported himself to this body to give his statement. Can he be fighting shy of anything?

Get the game out of this rut

Has anyone wondered why our sport played with a ball has gone down so badly? This official was brought from the outstations so that he could give a boost to the ailing sport. What has happened is that it has gone from bad to worse. Recently the national team suffered humiliating defeats in the first and then in the return. When will we ever come out of this rut

An inside job

Back to the most popular game in the country. This time officials are wondering on what basis certain things are purchased at this key sports body. They say that there is a system when buying things such as sight screens and other gear needed to this sport and they have favourites who can help them. Could these officials, inside the sport, be getting a retun from those who are providing these items?

Not bad

The amount paid to an official of the Oval Ball has been raised considerably for school games. Little known schools are now wondering how they can manage to pocket out this sum. It is said that the people who raised the sum are hoping that ‘something’ will go into their pocket as well. Earlier the sum was Rs.20,000 and now it is Rs. 35,000 – a raise of Rs. 15,000. Not bad eh!

Like father, like son

The World Cup is over and back to the local scene. Appointed to the local body to run its affairs are two weather beaten officials. One has not attended any overseas meetings and not so fluent in the Queen’s language, so how can he manage things when he is overseas? The other is a person to look after money matters. Local followers of the game say that this particular official to look after money matters had served the present boss’s father and that is the very reason he has been selected to this august body. Can this situation be termed: ‘Like Father, Like Son?’
