Vajira Wijegunawardene has been appointed the new Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) with immediate effect, sources at the commission said on Friday evening.He has been on the staff of the commission for several years and his last position was Director, Capital Markets Development.

Dhammika Perera, Officer in Charge and Deputy Director General had also been shortlisted for the post which has been vacant for the past 36 months.
