Suspect, 4 accomplices arrested for selling real estate on false deeds
View(s):A large scale fraud by a drug dealer, involving the sale of land with forged deeds has been uncovered by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The suspect had been selling land to unsuspecting people for a long time, according to Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara.
The drug dealer’s modus operandi was to pose off on each occasion as a different person, with forged land deeds, which he purchased with money made by selling drugs. The suspect, Vidura Samal Guneratne, 52, of 99/04, Subadrarama, Gangodawila, Nugegoda, was arrested by CID officers on April 9.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had four accomplices from Ganemulla, Thalahena, Piliyandala and Bandaragama, also taken into custody by the CID officers. Further investigations also revealed that the suspect was also involved in forging lease documents of leading leasing companies, for clients to purchase motor vehicles. The CID has appealed to the public to furnish details regarding Vidura Samal Guneratne and his associates, and the places where Guneratne had stayed earlier. (JJ)
