‘Sinhawa Atharin’ Sanath handles a triangular love
Veteran actor turned director Sanath Gunatilake’s much awaited film ‘Sinhawa Atharin’– a gripping love triangle is now being screened at Liberty cinema, Kollupitiya and other EAP circuit cinemas around the country. Starring Semini Iddamalgoda, Chris Henri, Jayani Senanayake, Robin Fernando, Nadeeka Gunasekera and Sanath himself in the main cast ‘Sinhawa Atharin’ revolves around a traditional Sri Lankan woman who gets married to a French national who loves Sri Lankan culture. The film shows the dilemma faced by the woman when her husband gives priority to his higher education.
The story centres around Kumari who marries Richard, a Frenchman after a long standing love affair. When Richard starts studying for his Phd, Kumari feels she is getting neglected by her husband. One day she meets Wimal, a famous stage actor in Sri Lanka. As a student Kumari has watched all his dramas and this meeting gives way to a friendship which eventually turns to love.
They start to meet each other and all turns topsy-turvy when Kumari tells Wimal that she is pregnant and the film continues with many a dramatic turn and twist. Produced by Sunil T. Fernando, music of the film is by Nirosha Viragini. Director of photography is Sujith Nishantha, colour separation by Anada Bandara, the film is edited by Nanda Jayakody.
‘Sinhawa Atharin’ is also a reunion for Sanath with producer Chaminda Perera. Sanath makes his second direction to a script of Chaminda who produced the movie ‘Situkumariyo’ in which this award winning actor made his debut in 1980. Chaminda, now domiciled in Canada came across the story of ‘Sinhawa Atharin’, a true happening and Sanath who heard the story wanted to make a film on it. This is Sanath’s second directorial venture after his maiden venture in 2009 “Ekmath Eka Rataka’.
