A tale of five girls
View(s):The teledrama ‘Diyaniyo’, a different from stereotyped teleplays we come across, unfolds stories of five young girls who have shouldered the responsibilities of each of their families. Battling with poverty and lack of education, the five girls Champi, Mindulee, Pahandi, Vihara and Hansi become breadwinners for their respective families.
Champi, is a driver of a private bus she had hired. At a time when driving spcieally in public transport is under the male domination, Champi takes up this hard job not only to feed her family but several other families as well. Pahandi is the conductor of Champi’s bus. Determined to be a singer, Pahandi’s all dreams ended up at Champi’s bus where she plays a much tougher role than a singer.
Pahandi, Champi’s cousin is a driver too. She transports vegetables from the village to city in a hired lorry. Vihara works for a finance company to seize vehicles that failed to pay lease. Abandoned by her parents when she was young, Vihara lives in a shanty with her grandmother who is addicted to betting for horse races and her brother Jude who was careless miscreant whose only aim was to go to a foreign country.
Hansi is running a garage and the meeting point of five girls is this. The story starts when Vihara seizes a vehicle from a wealthy playboy who had been ignoring the lease and running away from the finance company. This leads to many a dramatic turn and twist the girls even getting embroiled with a dangerous and ruthless gang.
