Ambalangoda PS waives the rules

The Ambalangoda Pradeshiya Sabha seems to be a law unto itself. Recently the Pradeshiya Sabha with scant respect to the dead or to the sensitivities of the bereaved it bulldozed the Batapola common cemetery, using heavy machinery.

Relatives of those interred charged that the Pradeshiya Sabha obtained neither their permission nor a Court order -both of which under Sri Lankan law are mandatory when removing the remains of those buried. After bulldozing the land and disrespectfully disposing of the remains of those buried, the pradeshiya sabha committed another, blunder.

It commenced turfing the bulldozed site.  With the onset of the rains, the large sections of the newly turfed area was washed away, leaving the soil exposed.
A spokesman for the Pradeshiya Sabha maintained that their intention was only to spruce up the old cemetery.

Large sections of the turfed area have already been washed away
