Senior Girl Guides at Pedro Camp
View(s):May 8, 2015 dawned bright and sunny at Pedro camp site Nuwara Eliya. The Senior Guides prepared themselves to leave for the hike at 9.00 a.m., with Ms. Wajira Silva, Director Camp. The Director and the Camp Committee made prior arrangements for the hike. Mr. Ajith Jayasekara, Warden Pedro Camp site gave a brief introduction about the area.
The first stop was at the Bomburuelle wewa. It is the only sewage system in Sri Lanka to have the sluice gate within the lake itself.
Then the Senior Guides went into the forest trek lead by Mr. Ajith. He instructed the Senior Guides on the endemic plants and animals present in the area.
The giant fern was a special plant they spotted on the hike. There were different types of pine trees which were introduced to Sri Lanka by the English in the woods. After an adventurous and challenging trek through the forest for around one and half hours the Senior Guides returned to the camp site tired but happy.
