Southern Province best at 2014 GCE O/L, displacing Western

The Southern Province (SP) has surpassed the performances of the Western and North-Western Provinces at last year’s GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) exam, to reach the top, an analysis of the results by the Education Ministry revealed.
The SP which was 3rd in 2013, with 67.05% qualifying for the GCE (A/L), came 1st in 2014 with 73.08% of the candidates qualifying for the GCE (A/L).
In contrast, the WP which was 1st in 2013, dropped to 2nd place, though they showed a marginal increase in those who qualified for the A/Ls. In 2013, WP saw 69.4% qualified for the A/L’s, while in 2014 it increased to 71.96%, but still below SP.
The NWP dropped to 3rd place, despite showing an improvement in the pass rate. In 2013, 68.92% qualified for the A/Ls, while last year 70.42% qualified for the A/Ls.
The NP was 9th and last with 64.19% qualifying for the A/Ls. This was a drop from the 6th place, as last year’s qualifying figure was 65.33%.
