French spring here
View(s):The French Spring Festival will showcase cinema both French and Sri Lankan during its fourth edition which will be held from Friday June 4 to July 14. The 10-day festival in Sri Lanka is a major multi-disciplinary event celebrating arts and culture organized by the Embassy of France, the Alliance Française de Kotte in Colombo and the Alliance Française network in Sri Lanka and the Maldives, in partnership with the State Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Sri Lanka, the Galle Face Hotel and Jet Airways with the support of number of French and Sri Lankan companies.
At the festival cultural diversity will also be showcased through animated movies. French film director and writer Marguerite Abouet will present her movie ‘Aya de Yopougon’ in Matara at 3pm on May 9 at University of Ruhuna, Matra, at 5 pm on July 10 at Alliance Francaise, Kandy and at 5.45 pm on July 11 at the National Film Corporation. Marguerite Abouet will conduct a workshop on animated filmmaking at the Digital Film Academy, Colombo.
On July 12 Jayantha Chandrasiri’s latest film ‘Samanala Sandwaniya’ will also be screened on July 12. Two other films ‘Le Chat du Rabbin’ and ‘Couleur de peau: Miel’ will be screend at 11 am and 3 pm on July 11 at the NFC cinema halls.
The festival will be held in various venues in Colombo including Galle Face Hotel, BMICH, the National Art Gallery, National Film Corporation, Lionel Wendt, Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology and Deanna School of Dancing. A variety of key events promoting cultural exchanges will also take place in Kandy, Matara, Galle, Jaffna and Male’ in the Maldives. Most events of the festival will be free of charge and open to all.
