Charith, Bryan and Kevin gain podium finishes in Bangalore
View(s):Three Sri Lankan drivers, Charith Gunawardana and the Perera brothers — Bryan and Kevin brought glory to their motherland by claiming podium finishes at the JK Max Rotax Rookie Cup Round 1 and 2 held in Bangalore, India. The Round 1 of the championship was held on May 23 followed by Round 2 which was held the following day. Each round consisted of four races where top three drivers from each class were awarded from point basis.
The karting trio: Charith, Bryan and Kevin
Charith (27) and 16-years-old Bryan had podium finished in the senior rookie class while Kevin, one year younger than his brother, finished on the podium in the junior rookie class. Charith managed to secure the 1st runner-up slot in senior class. Bryan, unfortunately had to DNF’s due to two accidents in two races which made him miss the podium opportunity.
During Round 2, all three drivers returned with vengeance after their bitter experiences from the two earlier rounds to put a splendid show. Kevin handled his machine neatly to finish 1st runner-up after competing alongside 16 others while Bryan claimed four wins from each round to as the overall winner of the senior class.
In the Overall Championship, Kevin finished third in the podium and Charith and Bryan Perera took overall 2nd place and 3rd places respectively. The trio competed against few of the very senior Indian drivers such as namely, Ricky Donison, Amey Bafna, Dhruv Mohite, Nayan Chaterjee, Aarosh Ravindra, Akash Gowda and Mira Erda. The three talented drivers were accompanied by Kelum Piyasena as the manager.
