“Premaya Nam” chosen for Official Selection at 18th Shanghai Film Fest
View(s):“Premaya Nam”, the directorial debut by brothers Kalpana Ariyawansa and Vindana. Ariyawansa will be screened at the 18th Shanghai International Film Festival which started yesterday, June 13. Chosen to be screened in “Official Selection” section at the festival held from June 13 to 21 in Shanghai, China, “Premaya Nam” will be screened at 6.30 pm on June 15 at the Shanghai Grand Theatre.
The Shanghai International Film Festival is considered one of the biggest in Asia and is one of the 15 main festivals out of 52 international festivals accredited by the international film festival regulatory body , Paris based The FIAPF (Fédération Internationale des Associations de Producteurs de Films; English: International Federation of Film Producers Associations). The 18th Shanghai International Film Festival will be the second International Festival “Premaya Nam” has been chosen for after competing last April at the Beijing International Film Festival.
Based on a true story, “Premaya Nam” starring Shyam Fernando, Samanalee Fonseka, Suranga Ranawaka and Dr. Sathis Wijemanne, features an ensemble of cast frequently seen on contemporary theatre, television and cinema. Cinematographer Jaan Shenberger acted as the director of photography while Tapas Nayak and Andrew Scott Duncan did the sound design.
The original score was composed by Dr. Rohana Weerasinghe and the theme song was written by Prof. Sunil Ariyaratne. Daminda D. Madawala contributed as the assistant director while internationally acclaimed filmmaker Prasanna Vithanage acted as the executive producer. Brothers Kalpana and Vindana Ariyawansa wrote and directed “Premaya Nam” and it is being produced by Prem Dissanayake, Athula Mahawalage and Sujeewa Wijesinghe.
