Chinese businesses with 75 stalls dominated the Construction Expo 2015 – Interior and Lifestyle Show organised jointly by the Ceylon Institute of Builders (CIOB) and the Lanka Exhibitions and Conference Services (LECS) held last week at the BMICH.
The Chinese segment was accommodated in a special pavilion and they represented Fujian, Liaoning, Jaingxi, Hunan, Hangzhou City and Shaoxing City provinces of China.

The exhibition held for the 4th consecutive year has now become the meeting place for the buyers and sellers of all products connected to the building industry. Foreign stallholders grabbed the opportunity to have one-to-one business deals and collaborations. Construction Expo also featured the ‘World Construction Symposium’ with the participation of foreign construction entrepreneurs.

Dr. Rohan Karunaratne, President, CIOB speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition said that while pushing the industry to greater heights, they are also doing their best to minimise the environmental pollution in their activities.

He indicated that with the green building concept in place, the building industry could reduce this pollution up to 40 per cent.
He said out of total air pollution, 40 per cent is the contribution from the building industry. Explaining as to how they would eliminate this 40 per cent, he said that when they built factories, they would take steps to stop emitting thick black fumes to the air. What they would do is transform black thick fumes into liquid and then release it to the earth. Even though this carbon dioxide (fumes) is harmful in the air, it is good for the earth.
