President Maithripala Sirisena has named two more members to the Commission investigating disappearances and abductions of persons from the Northern and Eastern Provinces, in order to expedite its work. They are retired High Court Judge Tillekeratne Ratnayake and retired Ministry Secretary Hewahettige Sumanapala, who will join Commissioners
Maxwell Parakrama Paranagama, Priyanthi Vidyaratne and Mano Ramanathan.

The President, in making the new appointments said it had been identified that the number of Commissioners currently holding office was “not adequate to more efficiently and speedily execute the functions of the Commission which has been vested with an enhanced role.”

The Commission of Inquiry was appointed by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa in August 2013.
