CALSDA moves to Colombo 5
View(s):The inauguration ceremony when the Colombo Academy of Language Skills and Dramatic Art (CALSDA) moved to its new and spacious premises at 77A Fife Road, Colombo 5 was held on June 12.
With its motto of A posse ad esse (From possibility to reality), CALSDA has during the past 15 years established itself as a leading examining body of English language skills in Sri Lanka.
Founded in 2000 by Varuni Jayasekara and Zulfika Musafer, CALSDA’s examination syllabi have been compiled in consultation with experts in the field. These are people who are “attuned to the value of the spoken word in modern life”, according to the sleek booklet on the academy distributed at the inauguration ceremony. These syllabi are designed to meet the needs of those who wish to acquire better communication skills.
In the task of examining too, CALSDA is aided by experts. These examiners, all of them highly qualified, maintain a demanding standard at each examination grade, but at the same time allow unlimited scope and flexibility in terms of material and performance approaches, the booklet states.
CALSDA’s examination centres are spread across the country. Through them, the academy offers a long list of general examinations which include Spoken English, Creative Writing, Prose Reading and Choral Speech. Apart from these they also conduct Examinations in Reading, Certificate/ Diploma Examinations in Teaching of English, Diploma Examinations in Speech and Drama and Adult English examinations.
CALSDA has pledged to work to “produce a future generation proficient in the domain of language skills, to elevate and support personal and career development, thereby enriching both individuals and the society we live in”.
