RASSL lecture: The fall of Sinhala in 1815
View(s):“A Closer Look at the Fall of Sinhala in 1815”, the Royal Asiatic Society of Sri Lanka’s monthly public lecture will be delivered by Gamini Gunawardane on Monday, June 29 at 5 p.m. at the Gamini Dissanayake auditorium, No. 96, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Colombo 7.
As this year marks 200 years after the termination of a 2300-year unbroken history of the line of Kings in Sinhala and its sovereignty, the speaker examines closely the attendant circumstances that may have contributed to the deposition of the last king of Kandy, through a re-scrutiny of the available material both by British written accounts as well as traditional Sinhala sources available.
Gamini Gunawardane holds a MPA (Master in Public Administration) from the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
All are welcome.
