Young soloists Sulara and Nilupul star for SOSL
View(s):Two promising young musicians Sulara Nanayakkara and Nilupul Silva, will take the stage to perform Vivaldi’s Double Violin concerto with the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka, at the Ladies’ College Hall next Sunday, July 5. The Young Soloists concert which will showcase the two young soloists’ impressive talent, will also include Beethoven’s delightful Eighth symphony, Saint Saens’ devilishly catchy Danse Macabre and Mozart’s overture to La Clemenza di Tito.
Antonio Vivaldi was the most prolific composer of orchestra music in the Baroque period. The Vivaldi Double Violin concerto, entitled ‘L’estro armonico’is a virtuoso showpiece, where the two soloists vie with the orchestra, through musical dialogue, duets and imitations.
The concert will commence with the overture to Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito that became one of the most performed overtures at one stage of its history and in a more recent review was described as ‘musically ravishing’, ‘dramatically complex’.
Beethoven’s Eighth Symphony, referred to by the composer as his ‘Little Symphony in F’, is full of playfulness and good humour. It is said that Beethoven considered the 8th one of his best symphonies.
Danse Macabre is Camille Saint Saens’ most performed work.
The Young Soloists concert, conducted by Dushyanthi Perera, is sponsored by HSBC, for the 19th consecutive year.
Tickets and box plan are at the Lionel Wendt Theatre.
