International MUSIC DAY 2015
View(s):On Saturday, 20th June 2015, International Music Day 2015, organised by the Embassy of France to Sri Lanka and the Maldives and the Alliance Française de Kotte was celebrated in Colombo at the BMICH. Launched in France for the first time in 1982 by Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture, Music Day is today an international event, celebrated all over the world, to promote the diversity of musical practices and bring people together around music.
Last Saturday, at the Mihilaka Medura open space (BMICH) in Colombo, from 3.00 p.m. until midnight, a number of Sri Lankan bands and artistes entertained an enthusiastic audience with great performances ranging from traditional Kandyan Rhythm to hard rock and reggae.
Students from the Alliance Française de Kotte and from the Ecole Française Internationale de Colombo presented a few delightful songs and dances. Then Pop music, rock, rap, traditional music, percussions and world music bands and artistes succeeded each other to show their talent and perform songs to please all tastes. Famous bands including NAADRO, Paranoid Earthling as well as Ravi Bandhu performed on stage.
In the evening, the French band Sonith, invited by the Embassy of France to Sri Lanka and the Maldives and the Alliance Française de Kotte, played a reggae music concert, inviting Sri Lankan renowned band Naadro to join them on stage to share a moment of percussion improvisation.
The event attracted about 500 people, with attendance at its peak from 8.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m.
