‘Ruwan Wenuwen’, a musical evening featuring cream of Sri Lankan musical talents, organised by the talented musician Mahesh Denipitiya will come alive on Sunday, July 5 at 7.00 pm at the Auditorium of Maharagama Youth Centre.

‘Ruwan Wenuwen’ is a musical event to save the life of extraordinary violinist Ruwan Weerasekara, who has mesmerised the masses with his unique wonderful tunes. Ruwan who made his violin sing and soothe the hearts of music lovers, is today struggling for life in a hospital intensive care unit after he fell ill suddenly.

The show titled ‘Ruwan Wenuwen’ will be held, aims at raising funds to save Ruwan’s life. T. M. Jayaratne, Sunil and Piyal Perera of Gypsies, Uresha Ravihari, Mariazelle Gunathilake, Edward Jayakody, Charitha Priyadarshani, Rukshan Perera, Keerthi Pasqual, Chitral ‘Chity’ Somapala, Bathiya and Santhush, Nirosha Virajini, Shihan Mihiranga, Umaria, Lahiru Perera, Jananath Warakagoda, Anura Senanayake, Athma Liyanage, Kasun Kalhaara, Rajitha Rupasinghe of Misty fame and several others will take part in this event backed by the orchestra of Mahesh Denipitiya.

The Channa Upuli Dance Troupe, Naadro and Ravibandu Vidyapathi will also contribute to the event.Ruwan, an old boy of Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa is the eldest in the family of three, was chosen to represent Sri Lanka as a Flautist in the Pioneer Camp  ( known as Lama Purogaameenge Nagaraya )  in Russia when he was 15. At the age of 18, he passed the music visharad exam (violin) under guru Somasiri Illesinghe at the Bhathkande University in India and later obtained an MSc in Economics at Donesk University. He also studied Western Music and Western Violin in Ukraine under a famous Russian violinist  for more than 10 years.

Ruwan is perhaps the only Sri Lankan to perform at the prestigious Bolshoi Opera Hall as a member of the Donesk National Opera and Drama society in Ukraine from 1996 to 1999. In 2006 he became a household name with his violin performance with Mahesh Denipitiya’ s Group in the first ever Sirasa Super Stars Season 1 and since then had been a prominent member in the Band  Mahesh Denipitiya and Friends’  Fusion ( MaFF)  for the past 9 years.
