Good fare at rankers c’ships
View(s):Top seeded players Nishantha Fernando partnering Chalani Lakmali emerged Mixed Double winners at the 28th Federation Rankers Carrom Championship 2015 at the Carrom Federation Headquarters in Maharagama last weekend. They defeated M. Shaheed and Madusha Vithana in the final.
The biggest upset at this year’s event took place at the second semi-final of the Women’s Singles event when Sri Lanka’s No.2 ranked Chalani Lakmali was beaten by Arosha Wickremasinghe after a gruelling battle. Present Women’s National Champion Joseph Roshita had to fight all the way to the final defeating former National Champion Yashika Rahubaddha in a ding dong battle in the first semi-final.
Chamil Cooray, Dimal Senaratne, Nishantha Fernando and Anas Ahamed will battle it out at the Men’s Singles semi-finals this weekend is sure to provide top class slice work. All semi-final and final matches along with the position games of Men’s and Women’s Singles will be played this weekend followed by the awards ceremony.
