Zone ‘C’ remain unbeaten and favourites after three wins
Zone ‘C’ recorded three wins in the U19 Zonal Quadrangular limited over cricket tournament which is in progress now to remain unbeaten. In the first match they beat Zone ‘D’ by three wickets and then followed it up with a 27 runs win against Zone ‘A’ before overcoming Zone ‘B’ by five wickets on the Duckworth/Lewis method.
Earlier, Zone ‘A’ overcame Zone ‘B’ by 129 runs and then posted their second win with a four wickets win against Zone ‘D’ while Zone ‘B’ got the better of Zone ‘D’ the only team that has not been able to chalk up a win yet. There were some fine batting performances with Kavin Bandara of DSS making a knock of 130 which incidentally is the highest individual knock of the tournament so far while Salinda Ushan of Isipathana and Risith Upamal of Dharmaloka MV Kelaniya were unfortunate to miss out making a ton by one run.
The tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket is being contested by four teams with Malinga Amarasinghe of Nalanda, Sammu Ashan of Ananda, Charith Aslanka of Richmond and Avishka Fernando of St Sebastian’s Moratuwa being the captains of the four sides. The tournament is being played on a league basis with each team confronting each other twice and the top two teams will clash in the final slotted to be played on July 29 at the SSC ground.
