Vimukthi’s film at Locarno film fest this week
View(s):‘Sulanga Gini Aran’ (Dark in the White Light), Vimukthi Jayasundara’s lates film has been selected to compete for ‘The Golden Leopard’ in the International Competition section at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland.
The festival will be held from August 5 to 15 and ‘Dark in the White Light’ will compete against 18 other movies namely “Bella e Perduta,” Pietro Marcello, Italy, “Brother Dejan,” Bakur Bakuradze, Russia, “Chevalier,” Athina Rachel Tsangari, Greece, “Cosmos,” Andrzej Zulkawski, France Portugal, “Entertainment,” Rick Alverson, U.S., “Happy Hour,” Ryusuke Hamaguchi, Japan, “Heimatland,” Lisa Blatter, Gregor Frei, Jan Gassmann, Benny Jaberg, Carmen Jaquier, Michael Krummenacher, Jonas Meier, Tobias Nolle, Lionel Rupp, Mike Scheiwiller, Switzerland, “James White,” Josh Mond, U.S., “Right Now, Wrong Then,” Hong Sang Soo, South Korea, “Paradise,” Sina Ataeian, Iran/Germany, “No Home Movie,” Chantal Akerman, France, “O Futebol,” Sergio Oksman, Spain, “Schneider VS. Bax,” Alex van Warmerdam, Netherlands, “Suite Armoricaine,” Pascal Breton, France, “Te Prometo Anarquia,” Julio Hernandez Cordon, Mexico, “The Sky Trembles and the Earth is Afraid and the Two Eyes are Not Brothers,” Ben River, U.K. and “Tikkun,” Avishai Sivan, Israel.
The film stars Steve De La Zilwa, Ruvin de Silva, Suranga Ranawaka, Mahendra Perera and Kaushalya Fernando.
A Sri Lanka-France co-production, ‘Sulanga Gini Aran’ navigates between a monk striving for purity, an organ dealer looking to make money, a young woman in love and a man who is both a “doctor and a demon” for the aforementioned characters.
