Rosyth Estate House: Modern living in the rural

View(s):

Set in a private 64 acre tea and rubber estate in Kegalle, the Rosyth Estate House is a newly reopened 1926 Colonial planter’s bungalow, redeveloped and expanded into a seven bedroom boutique hotel.

The Estate House is located in rural village Pussela, a ten minute drive away from the bustling town of Kegalle. Perched on a hillside, and situated at an elevation of approximately 1,000 feet, the Bungalow offers stunning views from the front veranda towards Kandy and the surrounding ranges of hills, 20-30 kilometres away, whilst the rear overlooks the estate and jungle covered hill sides.

Rosyth House boasts of having seven high end luxury bedrooms with all modern amenities. Their newly constructed Spa Pavilion by the rock nestled in the trees will give opportunity to relax with a pre-booked Ayurvedic massage. Rosyth Estate House is located in the midst of a private working tea and rubber estate. The Estate House provides guests with the opportunity to experience the Estate life together with beauty and culture of rural Sri Lanka.

The guests can explore the estate, visit the local tea factory, chill by the pool or take in the stunning views. Escape into a bygone era, built in 1926, as a tea planter’s bungalow and at the time a 350 acre estate, it has been owned by the same family for the past 35 years.

‘The Estate House has been completely refurbished to create the feeling of a family hill country retreat’ said the Manager of the property. The Rosyth menus are designed to offer fine Sri Lankan cuisine and an opportunity to experience some of the most popular Sri Lankan dishes utilising mainly locally sourced seasonal ingredients and organic home grown produce.
The Estate House is run like a home rather than a hotel. The menu on offer reflects their passion for good authentic food, where the experience of the cook and that of the food is a local fusion of flavours.

‘Every attempt is made to use the home-grown produce. On offer is an extensive range of local food and a few selected recipes that have been created by the owners who love food. We ask our guests to advise us of their preferences and any allergies, where ever possible in advance of arrival, in order to provide the best culinary experience’ he explained.
‘Combined with locally produced spices, we have been able to create a fusion of wonderful tastes with our fantastic cook – truly an adventure in food’.

There is always the option for guests to take a trip down to the local market in Kegalle town in the estate’s own ‘three wheeler’ and pick the food they wished to be cooked for their meals.  Rosyth Estate House also offers cooking lessons and demonstrations by resident chef, who can take the guests through traditional Sri Lankan dishes or any other fusion recipes that the chef offer on the menu at the Estate House.

Guests at Rosyth Estate, have a multitude of activities available for its guests. These include, the Rosyth Tea Factory tour, Estate walks through lush forests, bicycles for exploring, a temple and monastery, bird watching, Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage (25 minutes), Kandy, Dambulla, Nuwara Eliya and white water rafting in Kitulgala. - (SW)
