Polls Comm. Gives ok for revision of tri forces personnel pensions
View(s):Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has given the green light this week to revise the pensions of tri forces personnel who retired before 2006, a senior official of the Public Administration said. The revision would also benefit widows of tri forces personnel.
Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration, Local Government and Democratic Governance J. Dadallage told the Sunday Times that they received the approval from the Elections Department this week following a request made by the ministry.
“Since we revised the pension anomalies of the state employees recently the government also decided to eliminate pension discrepancies in the tri forces too. Therefore we came up with this revision,” he said.
The polls chief’s reply came after the secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration wrote a letter to him asking his approval before he published a circular on pension revisions for the tri forces. Meanwhile Pensions Director General S.S Hettiarachchi said around 26, 000 retired tri forces personnel including widows would benefit from the revised pension plan.
“The revised pension is based on the personnel’s grade and period of service in the respective force. The average increment range would be between Rs 2500 to 12,500. We have finalised the revision and those who are eligible could collect it from this month,” he said.
This week Minister of Public Administration, Local Government and Democratic Governance Karu Jayasuriya submitted a cabinet paper to revise the pensions of those who served in the tri forces and retired before 2006. Earlier a circular was released following cabinet approval to address pension irregularities of those who retired from the state sector based on the salary structure effective from 2006 January.
