Suspect and car used in Bloemendhal shooting in custody, says CID
View(s):Police investigating the shooting at a political gathering in Bloemendhal on July 31, have arrested a suspect, along with the car used in the incident, officials said yesterday. The suspect, Vidhane Gamage Amila, 27, a Physical Training Instructor, was picked up by Criminal Investigation Dept (CID) sleuths, while he was leaving the Fort Magistrate Complex on Thursday, they said.The suspect is the 6th accused in the Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra murder case, along with former UPFA MP Duminda Silva and four others.
The suspect’s family claimed on Wednesday that he was abducted by an unidentified group which had arrived in a white van, and had sought police assistance to trace him.However, police maintained yesterday that the man was currently being questioned in connection with the July 31 shooting that left two persons dead and 11 others injured.
Police described the vehicle recovered from the suspect as a black, Hybrid Honda bearing registration numbers KX 3149, the officials added. The officials said that investigators are set to arrest the remaining suspects in the next few days and recover the firearms used in the shooting. The CID is conducting further investigations.
