Beauty gurus set up council to spread true value of beauty

Unilever Sri Lanka last week launched the ‘Beauty Council’, an industry body made up of industry experts and role models to inspire women to realise the true value of beauty. Shaziya Syed, Chairperson of Unilever Sri Lanka was present at the event in Colombo.

The Beauty Council will comprise industry powerhouses and inspiring role models who have made significant contributions in their diverse fields of expertise. Beauty experts Ramani Fernando and Nayana Karunaratne, fashion powerhouses Ajai Vir Singh and Fouzul Hameed, fashion designers Darshi Keerthisena and Indeewari Yapa Abeywardena, award winning film actress Pooja Umashankar, former Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe Rozanne Diasz, National Director for three international pageants Prasanna Pathmanathan and Head of Beauty Categories for Unilever Sri Lanka Sharmila Bandara are on the Beauty Council.

Siddharth Banerjee, Country Marketing Director, Unilever Sri Lanka, said the Beauty Council is the focus of a long-term plan to create a national movement to encourage Sri Lankans to see the true value of beauty, and the role it plays in an individual’s progress as well the advancement of the society around them.”

“The Unilever Beauty Council will be a movement to increase understanding, acceptance, and inspiration towards making women not just look beautiful, but feel beautiful and to be the best they can be,” Sharmila Bandara said.

The Council will lead extensive initiatives in educating various segments on beauty in Sri Lanka and its effects, fostering female entrepreneurship, imparting best global practices to the beauty industry, self-grooming and education on etiquette, as well as programmes on upping the fashion appreciation and personal grooming of young Sri Lankan men, a press release said.
