SL’s main chambers congratulate new rulers after poll
View(s):Sri Lanka’s main commerce and business chambers sent congratulatory messages to the President and Prime Minister on this week’s parliamentary polls’ victory by the UNP-led coalition. The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) said the elections were conducted in a free and fair manner, allowing the people to peacefully exercise their franchise.
While thanking the Commissioner of Elections, the Police Chief and the officials of the respective institutions for creating this environment, the chamber said: “We sincerely hope that the winners as well as losers will accept the final outcome of this election, in a peaceful manner, without disturbing the normalcy and day to day life of the people, demonstrating our respect towards democratic ideals”.
The Exporters’ Association of Sri Lanka (EASL) said it was looking forward to the Government’s facilitation to reach the $50 billion export target as announced at the recent economic summit. It said it was vital to address the constraints that stifle development and growth within the country which compels Sri Lankan companies to seek to set up bases in other hubs in the region, in order to achieve their growth potential.
“Capacity building through education and development of skills within the industry together with dialogue and transparency in decision making processes by export-related organisations within the Government will ensure their relevance going forward,” the EASL said.
The National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka in its statement said the Government can now accelerate the development of the country in an environment of good governance, law and order, transparency and equality. They said it expects the authorities to provide reasonable protection and assistance to local enterprises to play a dynamic role in a competitive environment of export led growth for sustainable development.
