The panel of judges are appointed by the World Board of WAGGGS, one from each of the Regions, namely, Western Hemisphere, Europe, Arab, Asia Pacific and Africa.
For the judging process, the following areas are evaluated:-
Relevance, Innovation, Effectiveness, Impact, Sustainability, Group Engagement.
The Award is presented once every three years.
The 23rd Colombo Guide Company, attached to Musaeus College, has won the Award for the Triennium 2012 – 2014 for the Building Bridges – North to South Project at the J/Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed School, Mirusuvil.
The object of the Project was to provide educational infrastructure in order to raise the quality of life of the children and their families. Areas covered included a fully equipped library, complete with computer and internet facility, school stationery, school bags, uniforms and shoes. In addition provision was made for the students to receive special tuition in preparation for the GCE (O/L) Examination.
Students who qualify to follow Advanced Level classes were provided with the necessary financial support.
In addition, visits to Colombo, including home hospitality, too formed part of the Project Programme.
The most productive long-term outcome of the Project is the interaction between the two groups – the children from Mirusuvil and the Guides from Musaeus College; thus contributing, in some measure to reconciliation between the North and South.
This is an ongoing Project.
