Reminiscence
View(s):When I was a little girl I lived with my grand-mother – that is because my grand-mother lived in a house close to my school.
Once a week the treacle seller, Sami, came to our door step to sell treacle. My grand-mother who was fond of sweets bought treacle from Sami. I still remember him – tall, fat and dark. I used to watch my grand-mother buying treacle. When the transaction was over Sami used to tell me to bring a saucer to give me some treacle. How happy I was! I enjoyed the saucerful of treacle.
Years passed by my granny died. I had to go back to my parents. Some more years passed and I got married. So I lived in a separate house with my husband.
One day when I was in the garden I saw the treacle seller walking on the road. I was surprised. He looked quite old. He also saw me and came towards me. I bought some treacle. I cannot remember the quantity. I paid him but did not take the balance. His next words shocked me. “Bring a saucer little one. I want to give you some treacle.” With tears in my eyes I brought the saucer. As in the olden days he gave me a saucerful of treacle. I thanked him and told him to come again; but I never saw him again‼
