President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday said that all persons should live with equal dignity in all provinces.
The President was speaking at a token distribution of land permits for displaced persons in Sampoor, where the government is now in the process of returning their lands.

“I assure you that all displaced persons will be resettled in their original lands in a short period,” he said. A total of 1,560 families are to be resettled. He said he endorses the statement made in an earlier speech by TNA Parliamentary group leader R. Sampanthan that they wanted to live in an undivided country with equal dignity.

“Not only the people here, but people in all parts of the country should live with dignity,” he said. He said he bears no grudge against the Tamil community though the LTTE made several attempts on his life.Earlier in the day, President Sirisena addressing a gathering during his visit to Kinniya in Trincomalee, said the Government will introduce a local food production programme to further enhance the sector. He also said that the fisheries industry in the area will be expanded to aid the fisher folk.
