Eagles – the pride of Pieris
View(s):The Inter-Club Softball Cricket Tournament 2015 of David Pieris Group of Companies took place at the Colts Cricket Club grounds amidst much fanfare. Eagles Sports Club swept the series, winning both Men’s eleven-a-side and six-a-side matches as well as the Veterans’ match. The Women’s six-a-side match, a crowd-puller, was won by the Stallions.
Six sports clubs, representing different regions of the country, vied for honours in four categories. It was a joyous occasion for both players and spectators as the tournament was a meeting point for employees of the Group who are working in the far corners of the country. The cheering squads of the respective teams representing Cobras, Stallions, Eagles, Rhinos, Tuskers and Panthers were seen cheering on their teams.
The event witnessed a tremendous sense of camaraderie and superb sportsmanship. The winners did not have it easy as the runners-up in all categories put up a good fight. The nail-biting finals were made all the more exciting due to ball-by-ball updates given by two of the Group’s expert commentators Thushara Basnayake and Buddhika Wijesinghe.
